Attended a wedding reception at the hotel which was most enjoyable. The food was of a good standard and the staff were polite and extremely helpful especially as we took our 15 month son with us. Thankyou to everyone .

Very friendly staff, comfortable and relaxing, food was good.

Bathroom in bedroom 1 somewhat tired, particularly behind bath.

Our room was double booked and I had to put up with a standard room when I had paid for a superior room.

The setting is really beautifull in lush countryside and a view down the rolling hills. The staff was very frindly and the rooms are very clean. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment in the moment and I would think that once this is completed Pengethley will be a nice place for a weekend away.

Currently the decor is very outdated needs redecoration.

Staff were welcoming and very helpful. Food was fresh and excellent, would recommend hotel for rural and very peaceful stay.

Unfortunately main building was surrounded by scaffolding and workmen, whilst we were prewarned, did not expect it to be so much! Whilst room 33 was comfy there was several patches of damp in room and bathroom.

    Beautiful location.

The 4'6" bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The room (no.35) needed a refurbish (wallpaper cracks, mould on shower tiles, etc).

    The setting

The hotel was being renovated, we were not informed of this. The hotel held a wedding fair which caused significant inconvenience.

It was very a relaxed atmosphere

It should be even better once the renovation work is complete

We enjoyed everything about our stay at Pengethley Manor. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Our room was beautiful, with large four poster bed and splendid views across the country side. We ate two nights in the hotel and the food was excellent. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful and so well presented too, really set us up for the day! There is a great walk from the hotel down to the old church then up around the top. A great relaxing haven and would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. We shall be back! Thanks to all at Pengethley for making our stay really special.

the staff and food was good

The room we had was over the kitchen therefore we were disturbed early in the morning, it was very hot, the shower did not work the water presure was low and the swimming pool which was advertised was not avaliable. We were seated in a very second rate dining room with basic chairs and no atmosphere for dinner and then positioned in the same room for breakfast next to the hot food serving area. Not Good.

The staff were friendly and attentive and the breakfast was very nice. The main hotel and surroundings looks lovely.

The room I stayed in was an annexe, nothing like the photographs on the website. The annexe was run-down, the curtains were mouldy, the walls and floors were paper thin and the floorboards creaked, so I could hear every movement from my neighbours. Also, the decor was very dated. When I arrived the toilet hadn't been flushed in what must have been days, so the bathroom was filled with ammonia and smelled like a public urinal. The cold water was fed tank fed, so you couldn't drink it but to be fair they provided bottled water for tea/coffee. However, I wouldn't expect unpotable water from any hotel in 2011. I was not informed when I arrived that breakfast was only served until 8 the following day, rather than the usual 9, so they were surprised to see me at 8:10, but were obliging and let me have breakfast and still offered tea/coffee, although I did feel under pressure as they were clearing the tables around me. So there were lots of flaws, but the staff did their best to rectify them. From what I saw of the main hotel, it seemed nice and the setting was fantastic, though.

The excellent meal and the british wine from the hotel vineyard

Grand setting, very peaceful, with a good-sized room, nice bathroom/shower & friendly service.

Service was rather slow, to the point of being on the lax side of relaxed. The mattress on the bed was very soft - not good support for older backs & joints. The breakfast was fine but it "took its time". Fine if you're enjoying a break; not so good if you have to get to a meeting, as we did

Beautiful setting overlooking farmland.Peaceful & quiet enabling us to have the last 3 nights of our 5 wwek stay in England in a very large, old maonr house. A wonderful place to stay. The restaurant was a necessity given that the place is in the country but the meals were very good (and good value) with a varied winelist. The entire stay was excellent value.

Impressive building in a countryside location with impressive views. Well located for access to many towns and attractions. Very good food served in comfortable surroundings. Comfortable bedrooms with all expected facilities.

Some minor defects in the bedrooms, reflecting the difficulty of maintaining the decor in a large building of this age.
